The Aquincum Museum opened in 1894 to exhibit the invaluable archaeological remains found in the territory of the Hungarian capital. Budapest is the only European capital north of Rome, where the city’s Roman heritage can be displayed in a large contiguous area. The museum’s collections contain several million items.

In AD 228, Gaius Julius Viatorinus presented a portable organ to the collegium of textile-dealers. The instrument is known today as the Aquincum (water) organ.
